Man Ray is a pseudonym for Emmanuel Radnitzky. He was an American jewish artist. He was a Dadaistic photographer, painter and filmmaker. His most important photo's were made in 1918.
Together with his friend Marcel Duchamp he founded in New York the American section of the Dada movement. However, this trend didn't succeed very well. After a few unsuccessful projects, he moved to Paris, where he worked and lived for the rest of his life.
Man Ray refered to himself as a painter, but it is in other diciplines that he realy made the difference. Man Ray is one of the founders of the art movement Others.
On his thumbstone is written: 'Unconcerned, but not indifferent'.
