The work of Gilbert Decock is a solid concordance between spirit, imagination and hand, from which the firmly founded works appear with their infallible composition and faultless finish, subject to the eternal law of spirit-level, plumb-line, set-square and compass. In his severe and geometric compositions is still a place for reverie, that soul of every form of art; the seeming coldness is no more than the outward expression of a profound need to communicate. Those geometrical forms of mathematical purity, those sober colours wherein white, black, brown and grey predominate, sometimes faced with clear colours as blue, red and yellow, the strict observance of the limits of the flat colours transform Gilbert Decock's paintings into an orderly universe, admirably constructed, inspiring at the same time security and respect.
