In 1937 Collignon worked as a printer. He studies as a typographist and during the war years, he takes lessons at the 'école du livre' in Liège.
In 1943 he starts as a figurative painter, but four years later he chooses the abstract work. He becomes a member of the CoBrA movement and receives, together with Alechinsky the "Prix Jeune Peinture Belge"
In february 2002, he dies at home.
