David Spiller is a British painter best known for his paintings and graphic sheets with well known cartoon characters in the leading role. His work balances Pop Art and Art Brut.
Spiller was born in 1942 in Kent, England, he studied at the Slade School of Art in London. Spiller lived and worked in both Berlin and New York.
Both in his paintings and in his graphic work, the great layering is a constant. The paintings arise from mixed media techniques with text, images, droodels and patterns. This also shows into the graphic work through the many print runs with which the works are made.
Spiller died in 2018.
