François Morellet was a French artist.
His work was influenced by geometric abstracts from the first generation such as Piet Mondrian and the painter Pierre Dmitrienko (Nouvelle Ecole de Paris). In the Sixties Morellet experimented together with artists such as Francisco Sobrino, Horacio Garcia Rossi, Julio Le Parc, Yvaral and Joel Stein with kinetic art in the artists' group Groupe de Recherche d'Art Visuel, which experimentally investigated the possibilities of art . He also participated in the international movement Nouvelle Tendance.
In 1963, Morellet started creating light objects using neon tubes. From the end of the sixties, Morellet was engaged in art in relation to architecture and art in public space.
